When I’m not reading various user end agreements or painting miniature pewter figurines of Mexican soap opera legends, I like to watch television. I am not, however a fan of commercials. I have no idea why Jamie Lee Curtis is so concerned about the rate at which my wife has bowel movements or why she wants video evidence of said bowel movements, but frankly, I’m quite sick of hearing about it. I just wish Michael Myers would jump out from a toilet and……

Anyway, I DVR all of the shows I watch, even if I’m at home and perfectly able and ready to watch them as they air live. I skip past the commercials with my trusty universal remote that I programmed with my computer while I eat a king’s bounty of the OTHER brand’s yogurt. These are the shows that are, or will be, on my DVR this fall.

666 Park Avenue –  One part The Shining, one part American Horror Story, mix in some network television production value and spoil it all with C-level LifeTime movie and beauty product infomercial star, . Filling the network television horror-drama void, is ABC’s attempt to pick up some of the sexy/scary loving demographic that currently belongs to FX Network’s American Horror Story.  Essentially, it’s two pretty people stuck in a situation which they should run screaming from, but they decide to hang around because……otherwise we don’t have a show. Yeah. “White people problems” concerning demons and housekeeping issues. Truthfully, I just want to see Terry O’Quinn (ABC’s Lost, 1987’s The Stepfather) be a badass on television again.

When I first heard about this show, I was kind of excited. As months went by and I saw preview after preview, my interest faded. The ghost of my interest in this show still lingers, so I will indulge it when it premiers September 30th on ABC.  Whether the show will continue to haunt my DVR or be unceremoniously exorcised from my watching rotation will be decided rather quickly.

Vegas – The previews have been hit or miss. Period pieces (nastiest term ever, by the way) tend to come and go. AMC seem to have the market cornered with and to some extent, Hell On Wheels. After ABC’s took a ratings nose dive and was unceremoniously cancelled before airing a full season, CBS wants a shot at the 1960s.

is set in 1960s Las Vegas, Nevada, during the formation of what would soon become “Sin City”. Michael Chiklis is a Chicago gangster hell bent on scheming and skimming his fortune under the bright lights while Dennis Quaid, dressed in his best 1990’s Stetson cologne commercial getup , attempts to keep “his city” clean of scum. Goofy outfits aside, you gotta like Dennis Quaid. Even if you don’t like him, you have to like the possibility of his crazy ass brother, , guest starring at some point down the road. After Michael Chiklis shat up the small screen with , another ABC bomb, I’m looking forward to him hopefully redeeming himself. The show is created by Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the screenplays for Casino and Goodfellas. So we know that the show already has that annoying Italian guy (you know, the guy who pretends to like the Rat Pack and watches the edited 5 hour version of Goodfellas on basic cable like it’s his religious duty) demo nailed down.

Revolution - I’ve gone over in a spoiler free review of it’s premier episode on the podcast, but I’ll give a brief rundown for the hearing impaired: The show takes place 15 years after someone/something turns off the world’s power. The planet is taken over by militias and makeshift governments. Mass chaos. Gardens made in abandoned cars. Chicago is full of booze.

There are references to pop culture from our real life (set in our real world), which makes the world easier to relate to, but it also brings out some more annoying flaws in writing and continuity. For example, the screen printing on everyone’s 15 year old (or older) tshirts is as good as the day is was purchased from Target. And for some reason, assuming that electrical power is out of the question, no one has tried steam power for anything. Still, flaws aside, the acting isn’t wholly bad and there is room to grow. It’s on NBC and you can start watching it now online or on your TV.

The Walking Dead - Not much to say here. If you don’t like the zombie genre of horror, you probably won’t like AMC’s budget beaten step child/ratings darling. A lot of people complained about the slow pace of the second season. People don’t like seeing differences/changes from the that started it all. People don’t like seeing their favorite characters get disemboweled by the formerly living for no apparent reason other than to kill someone off. To that I say: the pacing was fine. There were plenty of great scenes in a variety of locations. Comic books are a completely different medium for storytelling. You should not expect television to match it’s pacing or be able to realistically (budget, time, etc..) portray the comic book’s storylines. And it’s the. People are gonna get eaten. The show returns to AMC this October and I can’t wait. Until then, past seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead are available for your to devour on Netflix.

Hell On Wheels - Guns. North vs South. True grit. Whores. History. Cowboys and Indians. Whores. Doubtful that building the Union Pacific was this bloody or full of that much drama, but I’m glad that AMC thinks it did. has quickly become one of my favorite shows. It’s set in post-American Civil War during the great . The stories and characters are so expertly woven together, you’d think that the show was based on a series of books. Sadly, this is not the case. It’s just great television. If you are even remotely interested in a time period that greatly shaped the future of a nation or if you just like to see old timey hookers in corsets and poofy dresses, you need to give this show a shot. Currently, you can stream the first season on Netflix. The show is currently about a third of the way through it’s second season. I hope there are many more seasons to come.

Modern Family -  Sadly, this is the only comedy on my list. The Office should have a season after Michael Scott stopped running the place and The Big Bang Theory left my good grace after it turned into The Jim Parson’s Project. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s shot documentary style with no laugh track. Sound like The Office? Nope. Better writers, less annoying (for the majority) characters, and a great seasoned cast make this show a must for my DVR. I realize that it’s become the show that people either love or hate. Some people tune in to see Al Bundy. Some people tune in to see breasts and their Sofia Vergara. I tune it because I think the writing is clever and it makes me laugh. That’s pretty much . You can catch it on ABC, but be sure to not watch while you eat. Unless you enjoy choking.

Once Upon A Time - This is a late entry into this article. I literally just finished watching the first season on (I assure you, File Under Horrible is currently NOT sponsored by Netflix——but we are open to negotiations and gift baskets) and am completely torn on how to describe the show and tell you why I want to continue watching it when comes back to ABC on September 30th.  I can tell you that the story revolves around storybook/fairytale characters who are magically brain wiped and stuck in a small town in Maine. I can tell you that since it’s ABC’s show and since ABC, the list of potential characters to be portrayed in the show are various and seemingly endless. There is a little bit of campiness to get over, but when you consider the plot, it’s not too hard. You will also have to get over the cliché “tough/independent woman who wants to love, but is afraid to get close” character played by Jennifer Morrison, who you may only know as the chick from M.D., back when that show didn’t suck so much. The first season left me scratching my head and definitely interested in seeing where they take the show and just how they will be able to stretch the show into additional seasons; if that is indeed the intention. The show is definitely a pleasant surprise. If you’ve listened to FUHcast for long or know me personally, you know that the previous statement is an indicator that you probably want to at least give this show a shot.

Sons Of Anarchy -  has definitely had it’s problems. They almost completely lost me when they took their sleepy little field trip to Ireland in season 3. Thankfully, they recovered with a well written season 4 and have kept up the pace so far with season 5. The shit has definitely hit the fan and I’m tuning in (after the fact, of course) to see where it lands. Oh yeah, it’s a show about bikers and their club and there is lots of killing, sex, drugs, drinking, swearing, loud engines, fast cars and mindless violence. You know, like Thanksgiving. It’s on FX. Past seasons are streaming on Netflix (ding!). See what the hype is about.

Sound off! What are you watching this fall? What should I be watching? What flavor of yogurt makes you poop the farthest?
